Asheville, NC in Buncombe County is the "big city" of Western North Carolina. Asheville (www.ashevillechamber.org) and its surrounding areas have much to offer in terms of amenities and recreational opportunities. Many tourists that come to Asheville to visit, return to live in Buncombe County. In addition to the city amenities of Asheville, the townships of Weaverville (www.weavervillenc.org), Black Mountain, Woodfin, and Montreat offer the benefits of "small town" living while being a short drive from Asheville. Certain areas of Leicester, Candler, Black Mountain (www.exploreBlackMountain.com), Swannanoa, Fairview, and Barnardsville can provide a sense of "rural living". All areas of Buncombe County have seen growth in the past 10 years, but probably none more than the areas of Arden, Skyland, and Fletcher in southern Buncombe County. Regardless of where you live in Buncombe County, the beauty of the mountains seems ever present.
